Frequently Asked Questions about IsoCompose

Which IsoCompose variant is the right one to serve my needs?
This depends on your goals. The range of functionality for each variant differs in terms of the basic purpose.

We offer three IsoCompose variants: the IsoCompose Editor, the IsoCompose Publisher, and IsoCompose Full Version.

The IsoCompose Editor
The Editor is meant for the development of electronic catalogs, but it does not include distribution rights. This variant is especially well suited for service providers who create catalogs for their customers but do not distribute data themselves.

The IsoCompose Publisher
The Publisher is meant exclusively for the generation and unlimited distribution of electronic parts catalogs that have already been created with the IsoCompose Editor. Layout work cannot be done with the Publisher. The Publisher allows revisions, but only as far as they concern changes of:

  • the parts lists.
  • the table of contents.
  • the illustrations.

The Publisher is meant for industry customers who have their catalogs created externally (e.g. by a service provider). The customer would only be responsible for distribution of the catalog with the data.

IsoCompose Full Version
The Full Version consists of the Editor and Publisher. This version combines layout creation and unlimited distribution of catalogs.

The Full Version allows departments responsible for technical documentation to handle in-house both the creation and the distribution of a company's parts catalogs.

What can I create on an Apple Macintosh? What is the procedure in detail?
You can compile the layout and data material on the Mac, but be sure to test and run the catalog on a PC only.

You can work on the layout and compile the lists and illustrations of your catalog on a Mac. The completed catalog, however, can only be tested on a PC, since the display is executed with Internet Explorer and IsoView. IsoView is only available for PC platforms because distribution by companies is usually done on PC platforms.

Yet for the creation of graphics and the preparation of the catalog, Macintosh is often used, especially by service providers. Therefore, we also offer a Mac version of IsoCompose.

In brief, create the layout and generate the catalog on the Macintosh, but then copy the data to a PC for display.

What is the difference between IsoView and the IsoView Catalog Kit within IsoCompose?
In terms of functionality there is no difference. However, IsoView does not run with IsoCompose.

Solely the IsoView Catalog Kit works supplementary with IsoCompose. Apart from that there is no difference between these two versions.

This means that the full IsoView functionality is available to you within IsoCompose. The distribution rights are also identical (except for in the IsoCompose Editor).

Can I also use and distribute IsoView outside of IsoCompose for other projects?
Yes.

As soon as you have acquired an IsoCompose Full Version or Publisher version, you own a full IsoView version, which you are allowed to use also outside of IsoCompose.

Can I publish my catalog on the Internet, as well as my Intranet?
Yes, of course, save the IsoView installer, because this requires a license.

After generation, all files you need are available in the publishing folder of your catalog. This data can then be started via the index.html default page on any web server or hard disk space. A prerequisite for display is the installation of the viewer on each computer accessing the catalog. This installer must only be provided for download on password-protected web sites.
